This collection of catalogs spans the history of the University of Pikeville.  This includes general course catalogs, as well as prospectus items, and a seasonal magazine called The Pikeville Collegian.  Though the school opened in 1889, the earliest catalog in our collection is 1901.

Catalogs offer more than just a list of classes. Early catalogs provide lists of students enrolled at the school. Most include histories of the institution, as well as images of the college grounds and students.  They demonstrate the development of the different degree programs, and are a reminder of some we no longer have.  Some of the books in this collection contain articles by students on not only educational topics, but also on local events at Pikeville.  Though a catalog serves a practical purpose for students, like yearbooks, it also provides a snapshot of the institution at the book's creation.

If you have catalogs not available in this collection, and would be willing to donate them or share them for scanning, please contact Edna Fugate at Allara Library Special Collections and Archives.
