Reading Room Rules and Procedures

Please remember to fill out a Visitor Registration form, located in the Reading Room.  It has a list of the rules of the Reading Room on it, and we would be happy to make you a copy.

You may be limited to one box at a time when using manuscript or archival documents.

It is the responsibility of the researcher to determine the copyright holder and to obtain permission to publish materials.  For our manuscript collections, use of the following credit line for publication or exhibit is required:

[Title of Collection], University of Pikeville- Frank M. Allara Library, Pikeville, KY

You may be required to wear white cotton gloves, supplied by the staff, while using certain fragile books and documents.

Since spills could permanently damage our irreplaceable materials, no food or drink of any kind, including water, is allowed.

Be aware that though you are allowed to browse the material in Special Collections, a member of the staff must be present.

Photocopying and scanning will be done only by the staff.  We reserve the right to refuse to copy if the materials are too fragile or other restrictions apply.  You may photograph some documents, without flash but please ask before doing so.

Please use erasable pencils or laptops to take notes. If you do not have a pencil or paper, please notify a staff member.
